If your child is showing a symptom or symptoms of COVID-19, please be sure to follow the guidance below in order to keep all students and staff in our RRPS community healthy and well.
According to the Public Education Department COVID-19 Response Toolkit, if your child has a symptom that could be related to COVID-19, you must keep your child home from school for 10 days from the date you first noticed symptoms.
Steps to follow if your child is presenting with symptoms that could be COVID related:
Call your child’s school. Please follow the prompts on the automated phone system.
Leave a message for the attendance secretary. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
Student’s name, grade, the symptoms your child is experiencing, and the date the symptoms began.
You will receive an email within 24 to 48 hours confirming your child’s return-to-school date. Your child may return sooner than the return-to-school date if:
A negative COVID-19 test result is provided to the school nurse AND your child remains fever free for 24 hours and symptoms are improving. (This does not apply to those on a mandatory Close Contact Quarantine) PLEASE NOTE: Rapid at-home COVID-19 tests cannot be accepted. If your child tests negative with an at-home test, a negative PCR test performed by a healthcare provider will still be required for return to school. (This does not apply to VAULT testing, which is PCR testing) If your child is tested for COVID-19, please do not send them to school until you receive the test results.
You provide a note from a medical provider to the school nurse that identifies a diagnosis that is not related to COVID-19.
Please be assured that your child will be excused from school during the quarantine period and you may obtain assignments from your child’s teacher(s) during the time he/she must stay home. If you do not hear from your child’s teacher(s), please contact your child’s them directly to obtain those assignments.
If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please call your school nurse immediately.
