Hello families,

I know families are very busy so I wanted to send a reminder to encourage your child to read/or read to at least 15/20 minutes nightly and have them fill out their own reading log.

To help your child continue to build strong foundational skills and become a stronger reader try these ideas:

  • Play rhyming games
  • Sing nursery rhymes (they are not to old)
  • Read poems together

Also, have your child practice their math fluency by practicing their combos of ten as fast as they can.  For example, 1+9, 2+8, 3+7 or 10-1, 10-2, 10-3 etc..  They could create their own flashcards or play Make 10 Go Fish!

The above suggestions may seem "babyish" but solidifying the above skills is critical in building a strong foundation for reading and math.

The students are well deep into their Albanessi work plans. This program allows the students to work at their level and pace in mathematics. After completing a pre-test, the students are given individualized math assignments to complete to grow their brains!

Students are grouped by grade level in the teaching of the required curriculum, ReadyGen.  I keep the first graders and our second graders go with Mrs. Britton for approximately 65 minutes per day with the exception of Wednesday.  Our theme for first grade for the current unit is "Making Choices".

                                               SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
We have begun our Famous Artist research.  We have learned about Henri Matisse and created our own paper cut outs and Claude Monet and have recreated one of his famous paintings, The Haystacks, End of Summer, Giverny.
We are studying the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey.

Please ask your child about them.

Habit 4 — Think Win-Win

Everyone Can Win

I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.
